Paint your baseboards a contrasting color such as Spanish Brown or dark gray.  It's like applying eyeliner-it will make the wall pop. Plus, it won't show scuffs.
-Thomas Jayne

Buy a bunch of those battery-operated LED Everywhere lights for only $8.99 each. They're like little hockey pucks, with adhesive on the back. Put them under a console table, on top of a bookcase, or use them to back light some interesting object on a shelf.-Libby Cameron
Slipcover a sculptural chair in gauze. You'll see the form in shadow. Very intriguing.-Susan Ferrier
If you want to accentuate the height of a room, apply braid, tape, or trim to the leading edge of the draperies.-Barry Dixon
Purge, edit, and organize your closet.  We love beautiful linen-covered boxes in different sizes, shapes, and colors to respond to the different categories of your possessions.  Buy all new hangers. Add a personal accent, like scented shelf liners.-Elissa Cullman

I've always been very open and very talkative. I grew up in a large family where there were no secrets and always someone to talk, share ideas and laugh with. My friends like to say that I never meet a stranger. Maybe that's true. I enjoy meeting people and value the stories that make up our individual lives. My life is enriched when we can share experiences.  I love it when you hit me up and ask questions. And yes, despite being busy, I do visit your blogs and websites.
I love social media for this reason.  It's a natural fit for my personality. The interaction moves me.  It challenges and inspires me. Case in point. Over the past few days, I've been interacting with Annette Wright of OD 360 Design.  She's new to blogging and from what I can tell has a lot of great ideas to share.  I fell in love with her illustrations and can't wait to talk with her about partnering up on my newest project.
I would have never met her without a social media presence.
Above are some illustrations by Annette. Great stuff right?  Please visit her blog and show her some love. Let her know the universe appreciates her venturing into the unknown and living by faith.

Viewing these images of the Hampton Designer's Show house on Habitually Chic reminds me why I love blogs. I love great blogs because they cover areas of design that I can not. After all, as much as I would love to, I can't fly all over the country attending design events. I trust Marcia Marcantonio over at Style Beat and Heather Clawson at Habitually Chic to keep me abreast of what's going in the North East region of the country.

I'm especially excited for this post, since I've been feeling blue lately, literally.  I've found myself drawn to blues so much that I planning to add it to my fall condo updates.  When I see such a great use of the color blue, it reaffirms my notion to give the color a try. What do you think? Are you feeling the color blue in this space?

African American Top 20 Designer Profile: Janice Palmer - "Orange is My Pink"

Hello Everyone!I am so excited to expand on the African American Top 20 movement by featuring individual designer interviews.  Each designer answered a series of questions starting with, "What's Your Favorite Color?" for the purpose of giving you some insight into their lives and unique personalities.
Today, we're starting with Janice Palmer of Palmer Design Group.  Janice originally hails from Jamaica and now makes her home in Atlanta, Georgia.  She loves all aspects of design and can be found buzzing through design centers and furniture markets around the globe.  Janice was the first African American designer to decorate a room in the prestigious Atlanta Symphony Decorator's Show house in 2011.  What an honor for any designer!  Janice has invited me to tag along with her to Highpoint Market in October where she promises to "show me how market is done".  I hear she has a great eye, so I can't wait for that.  I'll definitely have to let you know in detail how that trip turns out. In the meanwhile, let's get to know Janice.

PE: Share with us about your first project as a designer.JP: It was a job where I had to design several different condos.  When I finished all I could think was, "Wow!  I did that!"

PE: Traveling is a big part of your life. What is your favorite destination?JP: Italy- I love all aspects of design including fashion and architecture and Italy has it all.  I also love to vacation in places like Monaco where the rich play.  It inspires me and allows me to expand my idea of what's possible.
PE: How would you describe your personal style?
JP: Timeless elegance.  I love classic lines and design with pops of dramatic color.

PE: There are so many design influences today.  Who's your favorite designer?
JP: Alexandra Champalimaud who designed the Dorchester Hotel in London. Valentino is my favorite fashion designer.  I love what he can do with red!

PE: Where does inspiration for your designs come from?
JP: I love design so much that I see it everywhere.  I can walk into a room and see it fully designed.  I also pull inspiration from fashion.  I saw these pillows at the Atlanta Market was instantly drawn to the color, texture and feel of them.  I could design a room around the pillows alone.

PE: Where do you go to find things that fit into your design plan?  Any favorite places to shop?
JP: New York, Neiman Marcus and I love ADAC (the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center).  Travis and Company is one of my favorite places!
